Relatively dense purple. This too is very noble in all its aspects especially on the palate: fresh raspberry, some darker berry fruit, a fine thread of mineral acidity and amazing persistence.

Black centre with purple rim. A slightly headier, riper style of fruit, a little plumper and a little less fine compared to the Beaumonts, darker fruit, good acidity but the fruit itself is softer. Fine length once again.

Nine barrels instead of 14 usually (but 5 in 2021). Deep purple with brighter rim. Sturdy stuff on the nose with some black fruit. Mulberry and blackberry, certainly on the lusher side, but this is backed by the familiar Clos Vougeot structure and of course the need to wait ten years. But I would not want this any riper.

Only offered in magnum. A very noble dark purple with a bright rim. Very backward but also obviously very opulent. More massive but the threads will all come together. A note of peach is balanced by ripe citrus  zest alongside all the concentration of red fruit. Very backward at this stage

Brilliant rich purple, this is more sumptuous than would be classic for Romanée St-Vivant. A complex mix of ripe summer pudding fruits, not quite as ethereal as some years. Is this a touch riper? Charles indicates that the malolactic was later than most, which may be having an impact. Still, there is a good backbone with the requisite fine acidity. 

An earlier malolactic than the Romanée St-Vivant makes this easier to taste. Glowing purple. Heady bouquet speaking louder than Romanée St-Vivant. Even so it is a big and backward boy. But then what a weight of fruit! This is really magnificent. Cloaked in a luscious but not lush nobility with the perfect, fine tannin-plus-acidity structure behind. Very lively, a Richebourg with exquisite balance. 

Pretty mid purple, lighter in colour and bouquet than the Bourgogne, but certainly finer. A wealth of delicious ripe deep raspberry fruit, a useful point of acidity, very finely judged tannins, a small point of citrus, long and appealing. Perfumed cherry notes too at the finish. 

Rich purple but not unduly deep. The fruit is ripe without going too far, dark cherry and raspberry. Very powerful, again with the oak behind. At this stage in its development, I find the fruit a little bit smoothed over. Cheerful but no great finesse at this stage.
