Mid lemon yellow. Here there is a waxy note to the nose which is partly correctly ripe fruit, partly a little touch of oak, and partly the charm of the vintage. Good acidity, significant length, a little bit of orange rind coming in to the profile.

Clear pure colour, a touch more yellow than some. The de Montille 2020 Puligny delivers a beautiful bouquet, with a perfectly judged balance of ripeness, all the aromatics are there while the acidity behind stays good. This is a lovely and persistent example. Bravo. 

The first white to be picked, the Beaune Aigrots shows a refreshing green tint, some of the beneficial reduction character, very tightly wound, pure white fruit behind, lean but not without flesh, well balanced and persistent. 15% new wood used. 

Glowing pale lemon, with a racy chiselled and fine bouquet, really stylish, some fresh apple notes. Good tension behind, this is not at all a monster and nor does it show the cooked stones of some Remillys in hot, dry vintages. A balanced 12.8% alcohol.

The old vines are healthy but the younger plot will need replanting soon for rootstock issues. A fine rich purple colour. The nose shows an impressive depth of fruit. Much cleaner and with a limestone feel. Intense raspberry with some fresher alpine strawberry notes, really quite nuanced at the finish, just the right acidity and fine boned tannins. Very promising.

55+ years on more solid clay soils. A fuller richer colour, and a nose which is not quite so freewheeling. A solid mouthful of full raspberry fruit, some grainy tannins, enough acidity, long and with good intensity. Tastes clean on the palate.

The malolactic fermentation has not yet been completed here. The colour is an inky black, some apples on the nose from the malolactic. Unbelievably dense to begin with though redder fruit notes behind, evidently high acid in its unfinished state, but I think this will come through very well. Benefit of the doubt.

From the upper part of Les Gorges de Narvaux. Mid lemon colour, a little biscuit on the nose, wood reduction, again it is hyper-concentrated, with dense ripe lemon fruit, some acidity. A little bit harder to pull together today. Possibly less intensity than the village Meursault, though with a nice tingle behind. Very pure.

Not just intensity on the palate but depth of flavour as well. It is true that they are beautifully placed with their large plot of Genevrières Dessus, but even so, chapeau! Oak is present but perfectly integrated. Given the summer, I never imagined we would be able to achieve this freshness, this detail!
