2018 Alain Hudelot-Noellat Les Murgers, Nuits-Saint-Georges Premier Cru, France 750ml

Wafting from the glass with aromas of cassis, red fruit compote, potpourri and smoked meats, the 2018 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Murgers is medium to full-bodied, gourmand and textural, with a deep core of fruit framed by rich structuring tannins and ripe acids. This is a dramatic but nicely balanced Murgers from Hudelot-Noellat. (WK)

2018 Alain Hudelot-Noellat Les Charmes, Chambolle-Musigny Premier Cru, France 750ml

The 2018 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Charmes is one of the high points of the range this year, unwinding to reveal a lovely bouquet of cherries, raspberries, orange rind, grilled squab, peonies, warm spices and espresso roast. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, deep and muscular, with excellent concentration, lively acids and rich structuring tannins. This is the finest Charmes I've tasted at this address, and it comes warmly recommended. (WK)

2018 Alain Hudelot-Noellat Les Beaux Monts, Vosne-Romanee Premier Cru, France 1.5L

Another great success this year is the 2018 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Beaumonts, a brilliant cuvée in the making that bursts with aromas of cassis, cherries, smoked duck, dried flowers and rich soil tones. On the palate, it's full-bodied, rich and textural, with a multidimensional core of lavishly ripe but succulent fruit that entirely conceals the wine's structuring tannins.

2018 Alain Hudelot-Noellat Les Suchots, Vosne-Romanee Premier Cru, France 1.5L

The 2018 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Suchots is showing brilliantly this year, wafting from the glass with a deep-pitched bouquet of cassis, blackberries, spices and dark chocolate. On the palate, it's full-bodied, rich and enveloping, its textural attack segueing into a deep and layered core, concluding with a long and penetrating finish. Charles Van Canneyt has surpassed himself with the 2018 vintage, producing a set of wines that rivals his 2016s and 2015s as his finest to date.

2018 Alain Hudelot-Noellat Les Malconsorts, Vosne-Romanee Premier Cru, France 1.5L

As usual, the 2018 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Aux Malconsorts is the most reserved premier cru in the cellar, unwinding slowly in the glass with aromas of cherries, berries and cassis mingled with notes of grilled squab and smoked meats. On the palate, it's full-bodied, layered and multidimensional, with a deep and concentrated core that's still youthfully tight-knit. This is a Malconsorts with a brilliant future. (WK)

2018 Alain Hudelot-Noellat Romanee-Saint-Vivant Grand Cru, Cote de Nuits, France 750ml

The 2018 Romanée-Saint-Vivant Grand Cru reveals a lovely bouquet of rose petals, wild berries, exotic spices and rich soil tones. This is followed by a full-bodied, deep and multidimensional palate that's concentrated and serious, built around exquisitely refined but abundant tannins, concluding with a long and expansive finish. (WK)

2017 Domaine Duroche Gevrey-Chambertin Les Jeunes Rois 750ml

Hints of smoked meats and peonies mingle with aromas of red berries and loamy soil, introducing the 2017 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Jeunes Rois, a medium to full-bodied, delicately fleshy wine that's built around lively acids and powdery tannins, concluding with a sapid finish. This is a touch more introverted and reserved than Le Clos this year, and it will reward at least a modicum of bottle age. (WK)
