Domaine Sylvain Dussort

It is not a matter of chance that the village of Meursault is the kingdom of Chardonnay. Through the ages, their white wines have built an undisputed reputation. Detailed studies of the local subsoil made up mainly of shale with a good deal of clay create a perfect alchemy for the Chardonnay grape.

From a long line of winemakers and coopers based in Meursault, Sylvain Dussort took over the estate in 1982 with his wife, on the property where his grandparents used to live. Over the years, the estate has expanded with the acquisition of new vineyards, as well as the modernization and enlargement of the existing winery buildings.

They cultivate an area of 6.5 hectares. The grapes are the historic Burgundy varietals; Aligoté and Chardonnay for the white wines, and Pinot Noir for the red wines.

"Sylvain Dussort, who, with his wife, took over the estate in 1982 on the same property where his grandparents used to live. Now, with the help of his daughter Anne-Caroline, they direct this small 6 ha domaine, where all of the vineyards, with the exception of one in Chorey, are in Meursault. Approximately two-thirds of the production is white. Over the years, the estate has expanded with the acquisition of new vineyards as well as the modernization and enlargement of the existing winery buildings. With respect to the 2022 whites, the younger Dussort noted that 'we picked from the 1st of September and brought in clean fruit with good but not high yields of around 45 hl/ha with solid potential alcohols of 13 to 13.5%. The style of the '22s is ripe and rich yet there is both good terroir transparency and vibrancy, which should permit them to drink well young but also with mid-term keeping.' I was impressed by several of the wines and in particular the Bourgogne is a knockout for its level." — Bertrand's Wines, www.bertrandswines.com, NY, USA.
