Domaine Gerard Tremblay

Gérard Tremblay is the 5th generation owner of this domaine in Chablis. Under his ownership, the property has grown from 30 acres to 100 acres, 30 acres being first cru and Grand Cru sites. Gerard is very passionate and a purist. He uses “Lutte raisonnée” sustainable viticulture and takes a lot of care in plowing to preserve the Terroir. This gives the Chardonnay a special, vibrant personality due to the sub soil (Kimmeridgian limestone/fossilized shells). Gerard’s son, Vincent, is now beggining to take over winemaking responsibilities.

In 1990, they built a new winery and underground barrel cellar. The use of oak is well thought-out. Gérard does not like a dominant oak flavour, but recognizes that oak is needed to bring out the secondary aromas of the terroir. The Tremblay’s designed their winery to use gravity throughout the winemaking process. Grapes are loaded directly into the pneumatic presses, where they are gently crushed before cold settling for 12 hours. Alcoholic and malolactic fermentations are conducted in temperature-controlled, stainless steel vats, according to each vintage. Just under a third of the Vaudésir is aged in oak barrel for 12 to 14 months.
