Tasting notes

Producer note: Jean-Baptiste Bouzereau was quite enthusiastic about the 2019 vintage, calling it an "excellent year that was very hot and dry. We didn't suffer much frost damage in Meursault, but we lost most of the crop in the lower sections of Puligny. The flowering began on the 1st of June and by the 5th it was 50% completed. It was cool and windy which induced quite a bit of shatter that had a predictably negative effect on yields. The flowering didn't finish until the 13th and whenever it is extended over basically a two-week period, that is rarely a good sign and it certainly wasn't in 2019. The véraison began on the 22nd of July and it too took its time to finish. Thankfully we had several tiny rainstorms that gave the vines just enough of a drink so that they could push to the final ripening. We chose to pick two vineyards on the 6th of September and then began harvesting the rest on the 9th. Yields were perfectly good for the chardonnay at between 40 to 45 hl/ha. What I found interesting was that we basically had the same number of bunches that we had in 2018 but the berries were much smaller and didn't have the same quantity of juice in them. Potential alcohols came in between 14 to 14.5% with good acid levels. As to the wines, they're quite concentrated but with plenty of energy and they should be more than capable of rewarding extended cellaring." As the scores and commentaries confirm, I was suitably impressed by the quality I found here in 2019. While all of the wines showed well, several were outstanding, and I highly recommend them to you. Readers should be aware that there will be no Limozin for the next few years as the vines were pulled up and replanted.
