Tasting notes

Producer note: Anne Sigaut told me that 2019 "had a growing season that was moderately difficult but in the end, gave us excellent quality fruit. We picked from the 12th of September and there was essentially no sorting necessary save for eliminating a few raisined berries. Yields were average at around 35 hl/ha with strong potential alcohols that ranged from 13 to 14%. We had no difficulties with the vinification because when the fruit is so ripe and clean, there's really not much to worry about. As to the wines, perhaps their best feature is the fine fruit/acid/tannin balance that should enable them to age for basically as long as anyone would like to hold them." As the commentaries and ratings confirm, I was impressed with the Sigaut 2019s, which were bottled between February and April 2021. I was by contrast less impressed with their 2018s, reviewed below, as they are markedly ripe and somewhat warm and convey their respective terroirs less clearly than their 2019 counterparts. Tasting note: A perfumed, airy and very Chambollesque nose features a lovely range of spice nuances on the fruit that derives mostly from the red side of the spectrum. The lilting, energetic and silky texture middle weight flavors exude a subtle minerality on the dusty, refined and moderately firm finale. This is classic Chatelots.
