This high quality winery turns out wines that represent a synthesis in style between the extravagant ripeness that can be achieved in California and the more elegant, restrained style produced in Bordeaux. Beautifully packaged in tall, heavy bottles, these are pure, unfined and unfiltered, ageworthy wines that are meant to last 15-20 years. Recent vintages have all produced top flight wines made in a restrained, but rich style. The 1992 Cabernet Sauvignon was closed when I tasted it, but there is no doubting its concentrated, beautifully sweet, blackberry/cassis-scented nose, full body, intense concentration, and structured, tannic finish. It needs another 5-6 years of cellaring and should keep for two decades.
