2011 Spottswoode Family Estate Grown Cabernet Sauvignon St. Helena, USA 750ml

Deep garnet colored, the 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon leaps from the glass with notions of minted cassis, chocolate box, rose hip tea and forest floor over a core of kirsch, Black Forest cake, dried Mediterranean herbs and mossy bark. Medium-bodied, lithe and refreshing in the mouth, the palate has wonderful freshness and a lovely mineral-tinged finish. Still very youthful. (LPB)

2015 Hall Wines 'Kathryn Hall' Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley, USA 750ml

Very deep purple-black, the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Kathryn Hall offers up exuberant black cherries, black berries and plum preserves notes with wafts of crushed blackcurrants, red roses, tilled black soil, ground pepper and cedar chest plus a touch of espresso. Full-bodied, concentrated and delivering layer upon layer of earth and spice-laced black fruits, it has a solid line of grainy tannins and plenty of freshness to support, with a very long finish.

2018 Domaine Louis Michel & Fils Les Clos, Chablis Grand Cru, France 750ml

The 2018 Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos has turned out nicely, unfurling in the glass with aromas of ripe citrus fruits, confit lemons, pear and orange blossom. It is full-bodied, elegantly muscular and textural, with fine depth at the core, ripe but succulent acids and a long, penetrating finish. This is the broadest-shouldered, most powerful wine in the Louis Michel portfolio. (WK)

2017 Domaine Jean & Gilles Lafouge Meursault, Cote de Beaune, France 750ml

Hailing from the lieux-dits Les Clous and Moulin Landin, the 2017 Meursault unfurls in the glass with pretty aromas of crisp green orchard fruit, citrus oil, hazelnut cream and white flowers. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, satiny and pure, with an elegantly textural attack, a good core of fruit and crisp acids. What's more, there are fully eleven barrels this year.

2010 Roberto Voerzio Rocche dell'Annunziata Torriglione 750ml

The 2010 Barolo Torriglione (tasted in a magnum) represents a new wine for Roberto Voerzio. He actually tells me that he prefers the wines as two separate expressions rather than one blended wine. This was a result he did not expect since he was used to tasting them together. The Torriglione does stand out with its own character thanks to the extra firmness it shows in the mouth. This wine has great potential for long aging.  (ML)

2007 Pian dell'Orino 'Vigneti del Versante' 750ml

The 2007 Brunello di Montalcino is more than a worthy follow up to the spectacular 2006. Freshly cut flowers, violets, licorice, leather and tar meld into layers of dark fruit in a dazzling display of elegance and power. Silky tannins and expressive perfumed notes both add further refinement on the huge, explosive finish. The combination of ripeness of the year allied to a classic sense of structure is immensely appealing. This is one of the few 2007s I tasted that still needs time in the cellar, even though today it is flat-out stunning. (AG)
