Tasting notes

Tasting note: A naturally exotic nose features aromas of white and yellow orchard fruit, anise, jasmine tea and plenty of floral elements. Here too the medium-bodied flavors are gorgeously textured while exhibiting huge length on the highly complex and balanced finale. This is a knockout in 2019 and enthusiastically recommended.

Note: there is almost no topsoil in this particular parcel and the vines grow into fragmented, heavily fissured rock

Producer note: Jean-Pierre Cournut noted 2019 is a "surprisingly good vintage, especially in white, given how hot the growing season was. We picked from the 9th of September and the fruit literally could not have been any cleaner as there was basically no sorting at all. The fruit was also perfectly ripe and with good total acidities as I made no additions of any kind. Yields are another story though as we were off from 40 to 60% in white while the volumes in pinot varied from 30 to 35 hl/ha, which isn't too bad. The skins in both colors were quite thick so for the reds I vinified very softly. One of the interesting aspects for the whites is how dry they fermented out as there was essentially zero residual sugar, which is unusual as there is almost always some small amount of unfermentable sugar that remains. I like this vintage a lot as the wines are full of tension and the terroir transparency is excellent." Cournut is justifiably well-known for the quality of his whites and 2019 should only add to that renown as many of them are outstanding and in particular the Bâtard and the Dent de Chien followed closely by the La Romanée.

Chateau de la Maltroye

We have an outstanding selection of Chateau de la Maltroye wines arriving direct from the domaine. Situated in Chassagne-Montrachet in the south of the Cote d'Or, Chateau de la Maltroye has been a family property since 1939. It is easily recognizable by its 18th century, glazed tile roof. The vineyard encompasses over 32 acres in Chassagne-Montrachet and 5 acres in Santenay. Jean-Pierre Cornut, the current wine-grower, has magnificently reinvigorated this domain which now produces some of the best Chassagne-Montrachet on the market. Indeed, the whites made by Jean-Pierre are vibrant, intense ...
