"This is an exquisite example of Pichon Lalande with the Merlot component giving the wine a coffee/chocolate/ cherry component to go along with the Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc's complex blackberry/cassis fruit. The wine possesses an opaque black/ruby/purple color, and sexy, flamboyant aromatics of pain grillé, black fruits, and cedar. Exquisite on the palate, this full-bodied, layered, multi-dimensional wine should prove to be one of the vintage's most extraordinary success stories."

"Deep ruby-red. Very sexy aromas of currant, blackberry and brown sugar, all lifted by an ineffable floral quality from the thoroughly ripe cabernet sauvignon that comprises three-quarters of the blend. Dense, fresh and thick with extract; a wonderful combination of texture and guts. Has a core of steel and a powerful structure I haven't found in more recent vintages from this chateau. A very serious style of Pichon-Lalande, with much less merlot than usual. Finishes with terrific length and grip. Drink between 2005 and 2025."

"The extra year in bottle gives the extraordinary Pichon scent, cinnamon and cedar, with violets always lurking in the background. Great finess of texture, more 'feminine' than the 1996, lovely violets and cedarwood, with meatiness on the finish. Supreme class."
Serena Sutcliffe
"HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. Spicy oak dominates the nose. Intensely rich, savoury, black fruits on the palate, with strong supporting structure and a long, spicy-fruit finish."
